Good morning Dreamspinners!
Thanks for dropping by to help celebrate Dreamspinner Press’s re-release of my first book featuring Mike and Jessy – Personal Best. There are two more books in this series, which will be coming in future months, but the first one can totally be read as a stand alone.
In this book, Mike, the swimmer, has something that I think a lot of elite athletes have. Aside from innate talent, he loves to swim. He’d kind of have to for all the practicing that he does. And I think that is the thing that separates the very top in their field from the rest. And not just in sports either, the same will hold true for musicians, writers, anything really. If you have a love of what you do, you’re going to be more willing to put in the time.
Mike swims his practice laps every day, but he also swims when he’s bored, when he’s angry, when he can’t sleep, when he’s feeling sad or upset. He loves the water and loves swimming and that gives him something that the next competitor might not have. A love of what he’s doing keeps him in the water whether or not it’s been mandated by his coach to improve his swimming.
I think most people have something like that in their lives and the key is to be able to marry that to what you do for a living. For me, that’s writing. I love it. I would write whether I was being published or not. So most of the time, it’s not a hardship to put my butt in the chair and write. It’s what I love to do. And I know how very lucky I am that I love my job. I am grateful for that every day.
What’s your thing? That one thing that you adore doing and would do even if you never got paid for it?

Mike Gauliet could be a world-class swimmer if he took better care of himself. He’s too good to let go, so his team coach calls in a private trainer, up-and-coming hardass Jessy Turner. Jessy locks Mike down, putting him on a strict regimen of diet and exercise that Mike resents a lot until he realizes the changes are making him a better swimmer.
Jessy finds Mike all but irresistible but keeps his distance and remains professional, focusing all his attention on what’s best for Mike and his career. The two of them resist their attraction to each other for as long as they can, but eventually they have to give into the heat between them.
When things go wrong, though, can they, and their sports careers, survive the strain?
Best-selling author Sean Michael is a maple leaf–loving Canadian who spends hours hiding out in used book stores. With far more ideas than time, Sean keeps several documents open at all times. From romance to fantasy, paranormal and sci-fi, Sean is limited only by the need for sleep—and the periodic Beaver Tail.
Sean fantasizes about one day retiring on a secluded island populated entirely by horseshoe crabs after inventing a brain-to-computer dictation system. Until then, Sean will continue to write the old-fashioned way.
